“… a worsening stagnation of lymph has a detrimental effect on one’s appearance. This is the deeper cause of a series of cosmetic flaws such as swelling, reddening, puffiness, bags under the eyes, pimples, couperose, etc.

If the milieu and cell activity stagnate then the cells will degenerate, age, and die. If the milieu is constantly renewed, then life flourishes and the cells divide. Then the wrinkled and tired skin can regenerate itself, it becomes fresh and elastic, and the tired worn-out appearance in the face disappears. A natural regeneration that comes from within.” – Dr. Emil Vodder, Paris 1936

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Stimulating your facial lymph nodes gives your body’s natural detox process a boost, reducing bloating and promoting a sense of well being.

A lymphatic drainage facial is a soothing and relaxing massage using gentle but effective brushing motions to reduce swelling in the eye and neck area, as well as the rest of the face. The lymphatic system consists of a large network of lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes throughout the body. Intrinsically linked to your immune system, the lymphatic network aids in the removal of waste products from body tissue. The lymphatic system functions via and is dependent on the pressure of the blood system. Because of this, the efficacy of your lymph nodes in eliminating toxins is dependent on the efficacy of your circulatory system, which can mean a slower-than-desirable detoxification process. This is where physical manipulation of the lymph nodes comes in to help speed up the process. As a beneficial side effect, your immune system is also boosted.

When is lymph drainage most effective?

The stimulation of lymph node drainage is highly recommended for acne, Couperose and general congestion of the lymphatic system (telltale signs can be bags under the eyes and a range of skin irritations). With regular treatment, the symptoms of a congested lymphatic system can be dramatically reduced, improving the skin’s appearance.

They say beauty is ‘skin deep,’ which means it is also lymphatic deep. The Lymphatic System is an important component of the immune system that fights against foreign substances in the body. It’s function is to help keep the body’s tissues healthy by removing metabolic wastes, excess water, proteins, pathogens and toxins from the tissue via the lymph vessels. When it becomes sluggish, or stagnate, it can be a cause of such skin problems as swelling, redness, puffiness, pimples, and dark bags under the eyes.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage has a number of benefits for the skin:

  • Supports the flushing of toxins from the body

  • Helps drain the sinuses, relieving sinus pressure

  • Reduces fluid retention in the face, which can define the jawline

  • Reduce redness

  • Minimize acne breakouts

  • Stress relief

  • Much needed relaxation

While MLD does benefit most, there are some contraindications that may not make this a suitable treatment for you. We can discuss further in your consultation.
