5 Fall Skin Tips

Fall is here! It's definitely my favorite time of the year. And winter. I love winter! :) My skin doesn't always love the transition, though, does yours?

While 'skin type' should be taken into consideration when selecting your skin care,  over the course of a single day, your skin can range from excessively oily to overly dry. It’s important to guide our skin through these seasonal shifts to keep it as balanced and as healthy as possible.

1. For starters, wearing sunscreen isn’t just a summer must. It’s a year-round necessity. UV radiation is harmful regardless of season, rain or shine - or snow!

2. Who doesn't love a long, hot shower? Especially on a cool, fall day. But that prolonged heat can actually dry out the skin. Luke warm showers are your best bet (but not always the most popular). Additionally, follow with a rich cream while your skin is still slightly damp. This helps lock in the moisture!

3. You may want to switch up your moisturizer if your skin starts to feel dry or tight during the day. Opt for a heavier moisturizer with hydrating ingredients. For those of you with acne-prone skin, there are options for you! This is also a good time of year to incorporate a serum that targets hydration, and hyperpigmentation to start erasing the signs of summer. Cellular Defense would be an amazing option!

4. Heaters and dry climates can dehydrate skin (yes, even oily complexions). Dehydration can cause everything from signs of aging to redness to clogged pores and breakouts. Try adding a humidifier to the room/s you spend most of your time. This will add moisture to the air and help keep dehydration at bay.

5. Eat more hydrating foods and foods high in essential fatty acids, such as avocados, walnuts, and flax seeds, to name a few, to help keep skin radiant. After all, healthy skin starts from within.
